Well I still do graphics if anyone asks me to do them, currently working on Sassfashion.com. It is a jewelry company started by the love of my life Nicole! I hope it is a successful venture so I can quit my job.
As for my careers after college I found little money in graphic design. I worked for a production company for about 8 months after college (which I never did finish). The pay was horrible and around $28000, Salary no overtime whatso-ever. A 45 Minute commute each way. Traffic BLEH! Within this company I also had the opportunity to learn from an engineer more about electronics and how implementing the actual video and graphics was what actually paid the bills. So I began going on installs and learned a great deal about wiring soldering and AV in general. I then later after not receiving a Christmas bonus gave my 2 weeks a month later. I hooked up with a local AV integration company that offered me $38000 salary. Wooopy, I might just make some money this year!
Nah the market for huge TVs, sound systems, and bathroom mirrors that show the mourning forcast, dried up with the collapse of the extravagant housing market. I get laid off. Sweet paid to look for a job. Bam, Lucky I get one.
Now, I drive approximately 2 minutes to work, I get paid for every minute on the job, and time and a half for anything over 40, usually get paid for about 60 hours a week on average. I am now probably going to clear $68,000. No one wants to work forever. I just wanted to work at a job that I would not become a blob in front of a computer, so that someone else can go on vacation for 25 weeks a year. Or work for a wage I thought I deserved based on stats. Or be trapped making a wage that will never let me save any money above my BILLS.
I understand we need to put our time in but jeez not me, not for that pay, no way! And I think more young designers should be saying that, or you will be sitting 40 hours a week in front of someones computer for a lousy pay. Get out there! and find something that helps you prosper as an individual. It may not be design, it may not be more money but if it makes your quality of life better do it. I did the commute. Do not do it. If you love to design websites then do it, just don’t be taking advantage of…
Your computer, pens, paper, ink, and paint will be there when you get home.
What do I do now for work?

You may ask and I will post about my current job maybe next week.
